Assan Ouedraogo of Schalke has lately been linked to Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool FC. But who exactly is he?
The 17-year-old midfielder, who has been compared to Xabi Alonso, is a deep playmaker with the ability to tear down defenses with his speed and power. This season, he made his debut with Schalke’s first squad. He has since made ten senior appearances for the German team in the 2.Bundesliga, including seven starts. He scored on his professional debut in July, breaking Julian Draxler’s previous record for the club’s youngest goal scorer.
Prior to his accomplishments this season, the 6’3″ tall midfielder scored nine goals and dished out 12 assists in 23 games when playing at the Under-17 level, and he scored seven goals and made two assists while playing for Schalke’s Under-19 club the previous year.
However, you can be sure that German clubs have been informed if a German youth player is dominating the 2 Buli to the point where English clubs are interested. Bayern Munich, who consistently win the Bundesliga, is interested in him and is reported to be the favorite to sign him, according to a few reports.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany reports that Bayern have already booked a meeting with Ouedraogo’s entourage.
There is a release clause in Ouedraogo’s contract with Schalke, which extends through the summer of 2027. Schalke’s ability to qualify for Europe—which is unlikely given that they play in the second division—will affect the valuation. If Schalke does this, the clause will be between €9 (£7.8m) and €12 (£10.5m), but if they don’t, it will likely be just €7 (£6.1m) by the summer of 2024.
However, if the young midfielder makes his senior international debut for the senior German team, Schalke may also see a raise in that sum to €20 million (£17.4 million).
