Frank Kaminsky is finally home-bound once again- with the Phoenix Suns.
Kaminsky returned to The Valley once more after having played 105 games for the side in regular seasons and playoff games. The experienced forward is fighting for a place on the roster of 2024-25.
The 31-year-old big man had spent the previous season playing abroad; however, he is back to feature for the NBA team for a second stint, chasing bigger fortunes with the Suns this time
Last summer, Kaminsky joined overseas opportunities and signed with Partizan Mozzart Bet, playing with one of the very best teams in Europe. He played in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, AdmiralBet ABA League, and all Serbian domestic leagues for his new team, making himself one of the best players in multiple top European leagues.
For 30 games with his new Belgrade team, Kaminsky posted 8.9 points per game, shooting at an outstanding 55% from the field. According to EuroHoops, he also contributed with 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists and also gave some defensive contributions by averaging 0.4 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.
While with former coach Zeljko Obradovic, Kaminsky had 17 consecutive games off the bench and became a regular player in the team. While playing in all games for the whole season, Kaminsky’s scoring average was 9.0 points, along with 3.3 rebounds per game.
Although Kaminsky played well for the season abroad, his one-year contract ended with the season, and Partizan released him. That spelled out the final retirement of his sojourn abroad to pave the way to return to the NBA.
Comes Back to the NBA: Phoenix Suns Training Camp Invite
The agency for Kaminsky, Priority Sports, announced that he had accepted the training camp invite with the Phoenix Suns for the 2024 NBA preseason.
Former Wisconsin standout will compete for a spot on the Suns’ roster under new head coach Mike Budenholzer. With his deal not guaranteed, Kaminsky will use this training camp to prove whether he still has what it takes to contribute at the NBA level.
From Busted NBA Draft Pick to Contender for Playoffs
Frank Kaminsky joined the NBA in 2015 after being drafted ninth overall by the Charlotte Hornets following a purely decorated college career at Wisconsin. He is a shooter and an athlete with great versatility, and Kaminsky spent four seasons in Charlotte before signing with the Phoenix Suns in 2019. He was one of the key players in some deep playoff runs for the Suns and is more than right up there as one of the top fans in Arizona.
After spending some time in Phoenix, Kaminsky played the 2022-23 season divided between the Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets. He was still not playing well enough – which did not help due to injuries and very few minutes of action. However, on the horizon, there is an opportunity for a fresh start with a return to the Suns and, hopefully, once again to prove himself on the court.
Ahead of the NBA preseason, Kaminsky joins the team with valuable experience from both the NBA and international play. Experience in Europe has fine-tuned his game and made him a far more well-rounded player.
With stiff completion to one of the roster spots, Kaminsky’s versatility and veteran presence will be useful for the Phoenix Suns as they look to make another deep run into the playoffs.
