PSV star Malik Tillman has branded James Tavernier “Mr Set Pieces” in an Instagram message after the Rangers captain’s Hampden double v Hearts.
The Ibrox skipper, 31, is once again the club’s man of the moment with a penalty strike and stunning free-kick stealing in the headlines in Glasgow’s southside.
Scott Wright netted an impressive strike either side of the James Tavernier double with Lawrence Shankland scoring a late penalty in the eventual 3-1 win for Rangers.
Malik Tillman was one of Rangers’ top performers last season and played alongside James Tavernier under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and then Michael Beale.
Whilst Rangers activated an option on the attacking midfielder’s loan from Bayern Munich, the Germans instantly activated a buyback and Rangers banked a small profit on the USA international’s year in Glasgow.
Going on to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich in Germany, Malik Tillman would then move on loan to Champions League foes PSV Eindhoven who reportedly hold a £13m (€15m) option-to-buy on the player.
Rangers captain James Tavernier would then take to Instagram with a reel after his double over Hearts and Malik Tillman sent a quick response.
Branding his former captain “Mr Set Pieces”, the ex-Rangers loanee is clearly still keeping an eye on the club’s results thisseason.
Facing off against Rangers just months after moving on from the club, it’s good to see Malik Tillman stills has a soft spot at Ibrox and was tuning in as James Tavernier pinged a free-kick into the top corner.
The Rangers skipper continues to astound Rangers supporters and pundits alike with one former Ger in Alan Hutton branding Tavernier’s contribution as “incredible”.
The Rangers captain has now scored 111 goals for the club and will be hoping to get his hands on the Scottish League Cup against Aberdeen in December.
