Tottenham Hotspur moved to the top of the Premier League table with a 1-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday, despite playing the entire second half with 10 men.
In the 52nd minute, Dutch defender Micky van de Ven scored the game’s sole goal, poking home a first-time effort after a cut back from James Maddison following a Spurs short corner move.
“A lot of character and resilience,” Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou said.
Spurs are still unbeaten after eight league games and are now two points ahead of Manchester City and three points ahead of Arsenal, who meet on Sunday. Luton is still on four points.
Yves Bissouma was sent off in extra time at the end of the first half after earning a second booking for a dive outside the Luton area, but the visitors broke the deadlock early in the second half to claim all three points.
