Aaron Ramsey of Cardiff City has revealed exclusively to FFT why he chose the English second tier over the Saudi Pro League.
After his 12-month contract with Nice expired at the end of last season, curiosity about his next move was rampant. The Wales midfielder, 32, who spent the majority of his career with Premier League club Arsenal, was connected with clubs across Europe as well as numerous Saudi Pro League heavyweights.
Despite the supposed riches on offer to others who have traded Europe for the Middle East, like England star Jordan Henderson, Ramsey eventually rejected the notion in favor of a return to Cardiff City, where he made his professional debut in 2006. It seemed that money was not everything.
“This football club means everything to me,” Ramsey, who has made a solid start to his career with the Championship promotion contenders, tells FFT. “I came through Cardiff’s academy and worked my way through the youth ranks before making my first team debut.”
It all started here – this club gave me my chance.” Last season, I spent in Nice, France, and it was difficult to be away from my family. I did everything I could to return to Cardiff as soon as I found out they were interested in me. I’m overjoyed to be here.”
