Why Tyrell Malacia has been absent for Manchester United

Tyrell Malacia has been a long-term absentee for Manchester United as he recovers from knee surgery.

Malacia last appeared for United against Fulham on the final day of the season, and he missed the entire pre-season due to injury.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Malacia suffered a knee injury last season that was originally treated with pain injections before surgery was required.
According to reports, the athlete was on crutches after the injury and spent some time recovering in the Netherlands. He’s currently back in Manchester, and sources say he’ll be back before the end of the year.

“Malacia’s will take some time, as will Amad and Kobbie’s, they are really impact injuries,” Ten Hag stated regarding his injury before the season opener against Wolves.

Malacia last appeared in a competitive match for the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals on June 14, coming off the bench for the final 15 minutes as his country was defeated 4-2 by Croatia.

Sergio Reguilon was bought on loan from Tottenham on deadline day due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Malacia, although the loanee has just suffered an injury himself.

Malacia appeared in 39 games for United last season.
