Dominik Szoboszlai claims he tried a simple approach to assist Mohamed Salah focus ahead of his penalty shootout today.
Salah, who has already scored two penalties this season, was on target from the spot again in Saturday’s Merseyside Derby.
However, it was not a clear-cut penalty call, with Everton players protesting a VAR check. Szoboszlai told LFCTV after the game that he spent that time making sure the ball was in Liverpool’s possession.
“To be honest I saw it from behind so I was probably 95% sure that it was going to be a penalty,” the politician stated. “I just stood there to protect the penalty spot and held the ball so nobody took it.” Yes, we work well together.”
This is a feature that has been used by Liverpool since last season.
Jordan Henderson was usually the guy who stood guard over the ball, allowing the penalty taker to prepare in solitude.
Virgil van Dijk took over as captain earlier this year, and Szoboszlai is now doing the same.
