Liverpool Has Eight ‘Better’ Options Than Leroy Sané To Replace Mohamed Salah

Liverpool appears unlikely to pursue Leroy Sané. He has a similar profile to Mohamed Salah, but there are better candidates out there.

The connections between Liverpool and Leroy Sané are intriguing. Rarely has a proposed move made both so much and so little sense.

On the one hand, Sané has finally discovered the consistency required to be a true elite player, and he is delivering at a high level for Bayern Munich every week. He is a left-footed winger with experience on the right, similar to Mohamed Salah, whom he would eventually replace. He has already flourished with a team towards the top of the Premier League, as Liverpool will attest. He’s already in the final two years of his deal.

But it’s far from a foregone conclusion for Liverpool. First and foremost, Sané will be 28 years old in January. That may make him an ideal’stopgap’ until someone like Ben Doak can take over Salah’s job, but FSG would be paying a lot of money in wages and transfer fees for a temporary solution.

And, while Sané is currently delivering on a consistent basis, there are concerns that he would be able to do so in a new club, considering his history of blowing hot and cold. Similarities with Salah fall flat here, considering the Egyptian’s record of consistency at Liverpool.

In order to secure such a superb stylistic match for Salah, Jürgen Klopp would have to accept a lot of trade-offs. FBref, on the other hand, believes that eight players are a better fit for the Liverpool talisman — would any of them make more sense?
