Andy Robertson will have surgery after hurting his shoulder while on international duty for Scotland.

Andy Robertson has thanked fans for their well wishes after Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said the full-back will be “out for a while.”

The Scotsman was pulled off before halftime of Scotland’s 2-0 defeat to Spain during the international break, gripping his right shoulder with concern. Following that, national team manager Steve Clarke indicated that the player would be returned to his club for further evaluation.

This week has been a nervous wait for clarity ahead of Saturday’s Merseyside derby, and now the manager has announced that surgery is the only option.

Klopp’s knowledge comes from scans performed on the defender since his return to Liverpool, and while no timetable was given, it was emphasized that it is a particularly difficult process to build back to full fitness from.
