Transfer Deal: Conventry end £15m transfer decision with clement Philips for Replacement Ahead of January transfer…..

Haji Wright continues to toil with Coventry City after reports of a £7m bid from Rangers in the summer.

The USA international forward, 25, moved to the Ricoh Arena in the summer in a reported £7.7m move from Antalyaspor in Turkey.

But so far Haji Wright is yet to set the heather alight in the English Championship with the striker once again drawing a blank in 2-0 home defeat against West Brom.

It’s the striker’s fourth straight match without a goal and – despite playing in every league game for Coventry this season – the forward’s record makes for difficult reading.

Having only netted twice this season, Haji Wright has failed to to replace the influence of another Rangers-linked striker in Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swedish international’s 21 goals fired Coventry City to the English Championship Playoff Final last season and moved to Sporting Lisbon in an £18.5m deal in the summer.

As things stand, Coventry are currently 20th in the English Championship with the loss of Rangers-linked midfielder Gustavo Hamer to Sheffield United also having a knock-on effect.

Reports in Turkey – which are admittedly often not the most reliable – claimed that Rangers launched a £7m bid for Haji Wright as he prepared to leave Antalyaspor.

But as things transpired Rangers moved in a different direction with Haji Wright eventually moving on to Coventry as he looked to launch his career in England.

Rangers’ decision to move for Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers to the tune of £8m hasn’t exactly gone to plan but it’s clear that spending big money doesn’t guarantee big results.

The jury also appears to be out on Coventry City’s marquee summer move in Haji Wright and Sky Blues fans will be hoping they don’t get pulled into a relegation battle this season.
