News Report: Philippe Clement compared Rangers midfield with Captain to make dream come true….

Until the arrival of Philippe Clement, Rangers were struggling, lurching from one sub-par performance to the next.

The midfield in particular looked shapeless in and out of possession, lacking energy, pace, creativity or any real purpose.

A fascinating piece of analysis from Bill Orr, head of performance analysis at Raith Rovers, using WyScout has produced an interesting set of results though with Philippe Clement’s Rangers looking like a different animal.

Looking at the SPFL’s most progressive midfielders, Orr has established that Rangers quintet John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Todd Cantwell, Nicolas Raskin and Jose Cifuentes, in that order, top the chart.

We may not have seen any success during Michael Beale’s tenure but, what this means for Philippe Clement and his Rangers team, is that he has a core of midfielders who are capable of taking control of the ball and making something happen.

The perception that the squad wasn’t good enough, especially the midfield, never really sat right.

Lundstram and Jack, for example, had been the foundation for so many of the Europa League performances when we got to the final and they dominated some pretty impressive opponents – Jude Bellingham and Marco Reuss included.

It has been a feature of Philippe Clement’s early games, Rangers playing with a high energy midfield looking to get the ball forward quickly and drive at opposition teams.
