Brennan Johnson, a summer acquisition for Tottenham, may start against Chelsea for Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou following his impressive cameo against Crystal Palace on Friday night in the Premier League.
The former Nottingham Forest player is expected to have a successful career in north London because of his technique and quickness.
After signing, he has played in a few games off the bench, but he sustained an injury during the game against Arsenal that prevented him from playing in the next two and the international break.
However, he signaled his return to full fitness by providing a helper in Spurs’ 2-1 victory over Palace at Selhurst.
Spurs, who are now top of the league and one of just two unbeaten teams this season, have been pretty remarkable, having won eight of their first ten league games and drawn two.
Johnson was an intriguing player on the Forest team that made the transition, and on occasion, he has shown lightning fastness when introduced into games.
The entire Tottenham team is waiting for him to step up, and the matchup with Chelsea is anticipated to be an intense tactical struggle that usually brings out the best in manager Postecoglou.
The Australian is getting close to 50 home league games without a loss. His ability to drastically change teams he’s been a part of has been a gift to a club that had been having trouble getting back on track after Mauricio Pochettino was fired in 2019.
