Just In: Spurs sign a Saka clone with swoop for “electric” £34m ace….

Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon completely changed the mood in north London after Ange Postecoglou’s side lost four of five Premier League games and drew in the another match.

There is no denying that the latest incident was an unacceptable loss of form, injury or not, but the Australian coach deserves immense credit for his immediate success in transforming the beleaguered Lilywhites side and taking them to the top of the division months 2023/24 seasons. But given that he only arrived this summer, after Spurs finished eighth and lost talisman Harry Kane, that can be forgiven: a clear philosophy is currently being established, and although Reinforcements are needed in defense, they also deserve attention in attack. With that in mind, it could be wise for Postecoglou and his chief executive Daniel Levy to invest in the front line in January, with reports this month suggesting the London club could be among the top candidates for big winger Johan Bakayoko. According to a report from Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke in early December, Spurs are preparing to face London rivals Brentford in January, with Thomas Frank’s side falling short with a record £34 million bid in August. Recently, pundit Alan Hutton spoke to the website to give his thoughts on this potential move, saying Spurs should take the opportunity to secure his services in January.Hutton said: “I saw Bakayoko play for PSV against Rangers and I thought he was great. He’s very delicate, he has pace and power, he can score a goal, so the Spurs won’t close the door. “If there is an opportunity to bring a player of that level to your club it will make you better. I would never turn it down if the fee was right. With the focus likely to be on defensive lines, it is unclear at this stage whether Levy would be willing to strengthen in various areas. However, if he decides his fronts need more work, Bakayoko could be the dream acquisition.
