Breaking: Yankees Looking To Land Star Pitcher In Blockbuster Trade This Offseason…

The New York Yankees are looking to improve their starting rotation this season and are looking for more pitchers to do just that.

New York is currently chasing Orix Buffaloes star Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but it’s unclear if they’ll be able to nab him. There is stiff competition for the young pitcher’s services and ultimately only one team will be able to sign him. If the Yankees lose Yamamoto, they will turn their attention elsewhere in search of a new ace. One player whose name has surfaced as a trade candidate is Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. “The White Sox are talking with clubs about a truce, but still seem inclined to wait until after (Yoshinobu Yamamoto) and the signing, believing that the urgency of teams targeting these pitchers will only increase, Rosenthal said. “Cease , who is under club control for two more seasons, remains an obvious target for the Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles who lack high-profile free agents.” But he is also a possibility for other teams who make the Watch Trade Market, a group that includes the Yankees (San Francisco Giants), (Atlanta Braves) and (Texas Rangers). Cease may not be as big a name as Yamamoto this offseason, but that doesn’t mean say he wouldn’t be a big upgrade for New York. The right-hander had a rough year in 2023, but is only 27 and has a career 3.83 ERA in five seasons. He finished second in of voting for the American League Cy Young Award in 2022 after posting a minuscule 2.20 ERA in 32 starts. A trade would likely cost a lot considering Cease has two years of control, but New York has the farm system and need for another star pitcher to get a deal done.
