The Miami Dolphins are reportedly considering taking the drastic step of benching star wide receiver Tyreek Hill in Week 15.
The Dolphins could be without their top playmaker when they play the New York Jets this weekend.
Hill briefly left the Dolphins game against the Tennessee Titans Monday night due to an ankle injury he suffered in the first quarter. Hill returned to the game in the third quarter. Hill has temporarily left a few games this season due to injury in recent weeks.
According to Daniel Oyefusi with the Miami Herald, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said the team was considering benching Hill during the season in order to protect him from an injury that could hamper their playoff run:
“He’s such an important part of our team that we’re going to make sure that when he’s on the field, he’s not at risk of further injury to himself.”
Mike McDaniel on Tyreek Hill’s ankle injury: “He’s such an important part of our team that we’re going to make sure that when he’s on the field, he’s not at risk of further injury to himself.”
It appears McDaniel doesn’t want his prize wide receiver to take more knocks against a fierce Jets defense. The Dolphins have more to play for in January. They should be able to get a win over the divisional rival this weekend with the rest of the firepower on the offense.
