The incident happened a few blocks from Hard Rock Stadium soon after the game ended
After the Miami Dolphins failed to clinch the AFC East title during Sunday’s heartbreaking loss to the Buffalo Bills, a fan leaving that game was shot to death, police in Miami Gardens confirmed on Monday.
Investigators are trying to identify the alleged gunman, who fled the scene of Sunday’s shooting.
Bystanders told CBS News in Miami they heard at least four shots rang out.
The incident happened a few blocks from Hard Rock Stadium soon after 11:15 p.m., when the game ended.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were summoned to the scene just before midnight.
Investigators said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
It appears the man was with his girlfriend and a few of his friends, and they were walking through traffic as they left the area. An argument reportedly erupted between the victim and his friends and someone in a vehicle.
That’s when an unidentified person exited a vehicle, and started shooting at the group.
Jae Jackson had just left the gym when the gunfire started.
“I tried to talk to [the shot man and] I was holding his hand,” Jackson said. “His girlfriend came over and told him he was strong. At that moment, he actually lifted his arm up so there was hope, and maybe like 30 seconds later, his eyes rolled up and that was it.”
The victim’s name and age have not been released yet.
The Bills bested the Dolphins by a score of 21-14, earning the division title for a fourth straight year. Both teams have an 11-6 record.
