Darwin Nunez, according to Jurgen Klopp, has disqualified himself from today’s matchup with Tottenham Hotspur. Unexpectedly, Nunez wasn’t included in Liverpool’s starting lineup this afternoon. Fans would have anticipated the 24-year-old to start given his recent strong play. However, in a pre-game interview with Sky Sports, Klopp acknowledged that Nunez’s move to the bench was not entirely his doing. Darwin ruled himself out, the manager stated. “He brought something from the international break.” “A small amount of bone surrounding the knee, nothing major.
“Yesterday in training he said ‘it’s not possible.’ We took him here overnight, it has improved so he’s ready to come from the bench, but not ready to start.”
Nunez rules himself out
Having been in really good form over the past few weeks, it’s disappointing that Darwin has been unable to give himself the chance to keep that going.
Thankfully, Nunez was named to the bench today and might still hurt the team. But in light of Jurgen’s remarks, you have the impression that he won’t be used unless it is absolutely necessary.
From the perspective of Liverpool, we might want to cross our fingers that we don’t run across Darwin today. That will undoubtedly imply that the Reds’ situation in North London is favorable.
However, the former Benfica player is a player that motivates supporters to leave their seats. It’s always exciting to see him causing mayhem on the field.
Although Nunez is absent, Liverpool still has quality with Cody Gakpo filling in for him. Let’s hope he recovers sho uprtly.
Throughout his time at Liverpool so far, this has been an unfortunate recurring theme for the Uruguayan.
At times he’s been absolutely brilliant, only to then be ruled out with niggling little injuries.
