Lionel Messi from Inter Miami ‘may rejoin Barcelona on loan in January’

According to a source, Lionel Messi, the attacking star for Inter Miami, may ultimately return to Barcelona on loan in January.

In the summer of 2021, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner sobbed as he packed his belongings and departed Catalonia since Barca could no longer afford to keep the striker on staff.

With 672 goals and 303 assists in 778 games, Messi left Camp Nou with an incredible résumé. After leaving La Liga, Paris Saint-Germain won the race to recruit the 36-year-old.

Despite winning two Ligue 1 championships, Messi found it difficult to adjust to life in Paris and decided to try his luck in the MLS rather than continue his tenure with Luis Enrique’s team.

Messi turned down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia to play for David Beckham’s Inter Miami. Meanwhile, rumors of a Barcelona comeback also proved to be unfounded.

Although Messi’s contract with Inter Miami is set to expire on New Year’s Eve 2025, when he will be 38, there has already been speculation of the South American saying goodbye to the Herons quickly.

A temporary return to Barcelona for the 2024 season is not entirely out of the question, according to the Spanish publication Sport. A move back to boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina has been suggested.

With only a few weeks remaining in the regular season, Inter Miami, despite winning the Leagues Cup, are second-to-last in the MLS Eastern Conference standings.
