The Cleveland Browns have “zero” intentions of signing Amari Cooper and may re-sign him to keep him in the offseason. There has been some debate regarding Cooper’s future with the Browns.
Cleveland is looking for ways to make more money, and Cooper is projected to be $23.7 million against the cap next season.Still, Cooper is worth investing in as he was traded in 2022. He posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and was recently named to his fifth Pro Bowl.Cleveland.com’s Terry Pluto checked with his sources and reported emphatically that Cooper isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
“Heard from some fans and media that Browns may fire Amari Cooper due to salary cap constraints,” Pluto tweeted on Sunday, February 4th. “After checking with top NFL sources, the Browns have no plans to let Amari Cooper go, which means zero.”Amari Cooper is having a great season with the Browns.Unsurprisingly, Pluto’s report should dispel any thoughts that Cooper won’t be wearing the orange and maroon next season.
But the team needs to think about Cooper’s future. He has just over a year left on his contract. An extension would lock up the Browns’ top receiver for a few more years and lower his cap for next season.“Over the years, we’ve seen some divas play receiver for the Browns.
“Cooper is like Nick Chubb, respected by his coaches and teammates,” Pluto wrote. “I was told the Browns might not need to re-sign me because of the salary cap. “I will do that if necessary,” he replied.Cooper led the Browns offense last season despite catching passes from four different quarterbacks. Gained 1,250 yards on 72 catches. Cooper’s standout performance came against the Houston Texans on Christmas Eve. He caught 11 passes for 265 yards, a franchise single-game record.
“Records must be broken. After all, they’re just numbers. I don’t take it for granted, but it’s a thing of the past,” Cooper said on Jan. 10. “I always tell myself that I like to look back on my career in a nostalgic way and I think you will too. After you finish the game. One of the Browns’ priorities this offseason will be getting help from Cooper. Elijah Moore (59 catches, 640 yards) and tight end David Njoku (81 catches, 882 yards) contributed well. But Cleveland could use a risky second option for Cooper, which is what they’ll be looking for this season.”I think it’s Andrew’s desire to bring in as many good players as possible,”
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said of the idea of expanding the arsenal on Jan. 14. “But I feel really good about the guys we have in our lineup. I will not mention them all. But I’m very happy with what these guys have accomplished. Amari (Cooper), Dave (Njoku), Elijah (Moore), they all seem to have had similar moments in their careers and I’m proud of them.Wide receiver options the Browns could overlook include Ty Higgins, Mike Evans and Calvin Ridley. It will depend on how much cap space the Browns can free up this offseason.
