Before Bulut, who were Cardiff City’s previous five managers? Find out here

examining the final destinations of the last five managers of Cardiff City

In recent years, Cardiff City has gone through a number of managers as the Bluebirds attempt to compete for promotion back to the Premier League.

Since Cardiff’s relegation to the second level, the past two seasons have been challenging.

Cardiff had the humiliating experience of losing four local derbies to Swansea City despite finishing the league towards the bottom of the standings.

In 2022–2023, the club narrowly avoided relegation by finishing five points ahead of Reading in 22nd place.

The EFL deducted six points from the Royals, which made the difference between Reading’s relegation to League One and Cardiff’s retention in the Championship.

Where are the five previous Cardiff City managers now?

Erol Bulut has since been placed in charge of the team in an attempt to turn things around, with the Turk enjoying a positive start to life in Wales.

Here we look at the men who came before the 48-year-old, to see where they have ended up since leaving Cardiff…

Sabri Lamouchi

Despite only having brief tenure as Cardiff’s manager, Lamouchi guided the team away from League One relegation. After the conclusion of the previous campaign, the 51-year-old broke off contact with the Championship team. Since then, he has stayed unemployed and has tried to avoid the media attention while looking for new managerial position. Hudson only oversaw the first team squad for few months during his brief tenure as Cardiff’s manager. Before taking over permanently, the coach was initially appointed on an interim basis, however he only held the position from November to February before being removed.

Hudson has since made his return to coaching, taking on a role as part of Paul Heckingbottom’s backroom staff at Sheffield United.

Morison led Cardiff for 11 months before being fired in October 2022. The former forward maintained low profile after leaving the Bluebirds. But he returned to management over the summer, taking over non-league team Hornchurch, significant drop down the English football pyramid. McCarthy took over as Cardiff’s manager in January 2021, although he only held the position there until October 2021, despite having successful first season. The seasoned coach had break from teaching for about 18 months before returning to it with Blackpool late in the previous campaign. Before the Seasiders took his position, he only played in 14 games. The ex-Ireland manager is currently unemployed.

Neil Harris

The only manager on this list to have led Cardiff for an entire year is Harris, who served in that capacity from November 2019 to January 2021. Before being fired, the 46-year-old managed Cardiff for 62 games, winning 24 of them. Harris afterwards accepted the position as manager of Gillingham, where he supervised the team’s relegation to League Two. The former forward guided the team to 17th place in the standings in their debut season in the fourth tier, but he has continued in the position despite the subpar performances under his watch.
