Celtics at Magic: Boston heads to red-hot Orlando for a matchup with in-season tournament stakes

The Celtics must prepare for another quickly emerging Eastern Conference opponent after winning a historic game against the Bucks on Wednesday night.

The Orlando Magic are on a five-game winning streak and have soared to a 10-5 record. In their most recent victory, they defeated the Nuggets, the defending NBA champions, 124-119 on Wednesday, thanks to forward Franz Wagner’s 27 points.

Orlando has just two players on the roster over 26 years old, but it appears years of rebuilding might be paying off. Paolo Banchero, the top pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, is averaging a team-high 19.4 points to go with 6.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

This group play matchup also has important in-season tournament implications. The Celtics lead East Group C with a 2-0 record, but the Magic could earn a pivotal tiebreaker with a win Friday.
