Leeds United have been linked with moves to sign two EFL strikers in the last week, Barnsley’s Fabio Jalo, and AFC Wimbledon’s Ali Al-Hamadi.
The Whites are looking strong at the moment with a squad more than capable of pushing for automatic promotion places, having done very well in the summer to oversee quite big changes.
January is fast approaching though and the 49ers ought to have plans already formulating to bring in fresh faces, wherever they’re necessary.
Two strikers have been reportedly monitored by the club at the moment, as revealed in the last week – with both playing currently in the EFL and impressing in the process.
Firstly, South London Press revealed Leeds are monitoring AFC Wimbledon’s 21-year-old striker Ali Al-Hamadi, an Iraq international with five goals and five assists across all competitions this season.
Secondly, TEAMtalk have claimed Leeds are one of a number of sides in England keeping tabs on Barnsley’s 17-year-old forward Fabio Jalo, who scored a wonder-goal in their 3-3 draw with Horsham on Friday.
While Leeds might not need a new striker in the new year, given Farke already has Georginio Rutter, Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford, Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph, it shows the club are active.
The club need to back him in the new year to give us the best chance possible to get promoted, and if the manager thinks a new striker as backup is required, then they need to give him that.
At 21 and 17, neither can be expected to make the jump up to a Championship promotion race, but neither have long left on their contracts (Al-Hamadi 2025 expiry, Jalo 2024), so a cut-price deal is worth exploring.
Funds will be there, and Farke might be getting the backing he requires when the time comes in 2024.
