Young Luke Chambers has been a target of Jurgen Klopp during Liverpool’s senior training.
Initially catching people’s attention was Chambers when on the 2022 Reds preseason trip. After a successful loan stint at Kilmarnock since then, the 19-year-old is now a real chance to fill in for the injured Andy Robertson.
Additionally, Chambers is ‘under consideration’ for some playing time with the first team, according to The Athletic. It turns out that the teenager has long been considered to be one to watch.
It’s rumored that Klopp wanted to see how Chambers fared in training against Mohamed Salah after seeing him perform well in the summer of 2022.
In January, a loan deal was reportedly on the table, which led to ‘indecision’ on whether or not to let the left-back go. Chambers nevertheless traveled, and after being praised as “outstanding” by Killie manager Derek McInnes (via Kilmarnock FC Twitter), he apparently received “positive reports” upon returning to Liverpool.
According to reports, this gave the academy reason to believe that the young player would get more time with the senior team this season.
An ‘host’ of teams are claimed to have been eager to take Chambers on loan, which nearly put an end to that prospect. Despite wanting to ‘look at him closely,’ Liverpool allegedly informed any and all comers that the defender was not for sale. Chambers is alleged to have been inactive for some months.
