Liverpool may try to strengthen their midfield in the next transfer windows, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has provided an update on their quest of a “one-man army” in the middle of the park.
The summer transfer window was a busy one at Anfield, with the midfield being the only area of attention. Last season, the Reds had major troubles in that position, with age suddenly catching up with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, neither of whom could cover the ground they previously did.
Injuries to others such as Thiago, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were also a problem, but Jurgen Klopp brought in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch to address the situation.
So far this season, it has made a noticeable difference, with new legs mitigating previous issues – Szoboszlai has been particularly good – but that doesn’t mean that more additions aren’t necessary in the middle of the field.
The expectation is that a new defender will join in the near future to give Klopp additional alternatives there, but for now, another midfielder appears to be on the way.
