Manchester United will be without midfield enforcer Casemiro when they travel to Bramall Lane on Saturday evening to face Sheffield United.
The 31-year-old, who joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022, will miss the journey to South Yorkshire due to a “small issue” suffered while on international duty with Brazil. He wanted to leave last week’s 1-1 tie with Venezuela due to an ankle injury, but was pronounced fit enough to start the 2-0 loss against Uruguay a few days later.
On United’s suggestion, Casemiro has stayed in Brazil to “recover as quickly as possible,” which means he will miss this weekend. This season, he has started all 11 games for the club in all competitions.
However, unlike last season, his absence may not be felt as keenly this time around, with his recent performances falling far short of his normal high standards. He has regressed this season, unable to dominate midfield like he did the previous season.
