According to rumours, Manchester United bidder Sir Jim Ratcliffe is considering making ex-Liverpool transfer guru Michael Edwards the club’s next sporting director.
Edwards came to Liverpool from Tottenham Hotspur, where he held a similar post as head of performance analysis before being elevated to technical director.
He held that post for six years before departing Anfield at the end of the 2021/22 season after a highly successful tenure on Merseyside.
Edwards was lauded for many of the club’s transfers during that time, with the 44-year-old believed to have played a key influence in the club securing players such as Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah.
When Ratcliffe gets a foothold in the club, he wants to ‘oversee player incomings and departures,’ and part of that process might include hiring a new sporting director, with the future of Manchester United football director John Murtough potentially in doubt.
In addition, The Athletic reports that Ratcliffe intends to’make his own appointments on the football side’ if his investment is approved.
