KORTRIJK receives CARDIFF CITY LOANEE’S first victory of the year.
After defeating Cercle Brugge 2-1 on Friday, Kortrijk supporters may finally rejoice over three points. Dion De Neve completed Abdoulaye Sissako’s excellent effort after a scoreless first half. Ryan Alebiousu, a former youngster of Arsenal, had a wonderful turn of speed to gallop down the right wing and cross for Isaak Davies to score as Cercle pushed for an equalizer. The Welshman, 22, who is on loan from Cardiff City and now plays for Kortrijk, scored his second goal of the year. In the first minute of extra time, Leonardo Da Silva Lopes scored for Cercle to calm the hosts’ fears. However, in the eight minutes of extra time left, the Brugge team was unable to score an equalizer. For their first victory of the year, Kortrijk managed to hang on. After eight games without a victory, the team fired Ed Still and brought coach Glen De Boeck. The next opponent for Kortrijk is Westerlo, another team that is fighting to avoid the drop this year. On Sunday afternoon, they travel to Genk.
