Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone had an incredible first full season in professional football and won a hat-trick of awards at the 2025 EFL Awards.
In addition to being named League One’s Player and Young Player of the Season, the 21-year-old Ivorian was named to the division’s Team of the Year.
Since August, the forward has scored 21 goals in 50 games across all competitions, including 18 goals in 41 league games.
Along with teammate Garath McCleary, head coach Mike Dodds, Chief Football Officer Dan Rice, and other club officials, Kone attended the event in Park Lane, London, on the evening of April 28.
Kone responded, “With the previous manager, he believed in me because he was the one who brought me to the club,” when questioned about his growth and his experiences playing under two different managers this season.
“He brought me to the club knowing that I could one day help the team because he always knew I could score goals.”
“I am doing it because of him, but it isn’t finished yet.
“We must complete the tasks we have begun.”
This relates to Wanderers securing their spot in the playoffs following their failure to earn automatic promotion on April 27.
Following his evening of winning awards, many of his teammates congratulated the striker on his honours.
Right-back Jasper Pattenden said: “Congratulations, Rich!
“Well deserved, and you have everyone talking.”
“Knowing your story and seeing you every day, all the boys and I are proud of you,” added Winger Kieran Sadlier, who has missed a significant portion of the season due to injury.
According to centre defender Joe Low, “no one deserves it more.” On loan at League One opponents Stevenage, striker Brandon Hanlan said that the prize was “well-deserved” and that this is “just the beginning.”
This Saturday, Wycombe will host Stockport County to wrap up their league season before competing in the playoffs.
Although their opponents are still to be determined, Wanderers may play Stockport, Charlton Athletic, Reading, or Leyton Orient.
