Wolverhampton players and staff found themselves embroiled in post-match chaos for the second consecutive Premier League game, as frustrations escalated at the struggling club.
Following Wolves’ 2-1 defeat to Ipswich on Saturday — their fourth consecutive loss — on-field tensions flared among teammates. Defender Rayan Aït-Nouri received a second yellow card after the final whistle and had to be escorted down the tunnel by Craig Dawson. Meanwhile, Matheus Cunha, the Brazilian striker who scored Wolves’ only goal, was involved in a scuffle.
Just days earlier, midfielder Mario Lemina had clashed with West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and a member of his own coaching staff after Wolves’ 2-1 loss at the Olympic Stadium. Lemina was stripped of the captaincy during the week.
“The dressing room is a tough place right now,” said Wolves midfielder Tommy Doyle on Saturday. “We need to be honest with ourselves and figure out why we’re not getting results. Honest conversations are needed.”
The pressure continues to mount on Wolves manager Gary O’Neil, whose team now sits second-to-last in the league, four points from safety.
“We’re under a lot of pressure,” O’Neil admitted. “I understand the players’ emotions, but we need to maintain better control.” He added that the Aït-Nouri situation would be addressed internally.
Elsewhere, 10-man Liverpool battled to a 2-2 draw with Fulham, dropping points for the second consecutive match and giving title rivals hope. Despite being reduced to 10 men after Andy Robertson’s 17th-minute red card, Liverpool equalized twice, with Diogo Jota’s late goal salvaging a point.
Arsenal, however, failed to capitalize on Liverpool’s slip, drawing 0-0 at home against relegation-threatened Everton. The result leaves Arsenal six points behind league leaders Liverpool and extends their struggles, having failed to score from open play in three straight league games.
