If there’s one thing Klay Thompson is known for beyond his legendary shooting and championship runs, it’s his deep bond with his English bulldog, Rocco.
The two were practically inseparable. Rocco wasn’t just a pet — he was a constant presence in Thompson’s life, even during pivotal career moments. Back in 2014, when Klay was in the midst of signing his $70 million contract with the Golden State Warriors, he was reportedly more eager to get home and hang out with Rocco than anything else, according to SF Gate.
So when news broke this week of Rocco’s passing, fans were heartbroken — and quick to rally around the five-time All-Star with messages of love and support.
On Friday, Thompson shared a heartfelt tribute to his longtime companion.
“I’m gonna miss Rocco a lot, 13 glorious years with my boy,” Thompson wrote. “I know he’s in doggy heaven poppin somebody’s ball. A great dynasty dog he was. Thank you for all the sweet messages! All dogs go to Heaven!”
Thompson’s father, Mychal, revealed Rocco’s passing during a recent appearance on ESPN LA’s Mason & Ireland radio show, saying the family had to put Rocco down over the weekend.
“It was time,” Mychal Thompson said. “We were all sad, but Rocco had a great, long life.”
The Golden State Warriors, who witnessed the bond between Thompson and Rocco up close for over a decade, also paid tribute.
“Forever part of the Warriors family,” the team posted on social media, alongside a photo of Klay and Rocco. “Rest in peace, Rocco.”
For fans, Rocco wasn’t just a dog — he was a symbol of the lighter, human side of one of basketball’s most stoic superstars. And for Klay, he was family.
RIP Rocco — a true dynasty dog.
