Manchester United have received a boost in their efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani.
As reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano, PSG has decided to allow the French striker to leave the club in January and is now open to negotiating his departure terms.
PSG manager Luis Enrique lacks confidence in Muani, which has led the club to plan his exit, alongside Milan Skriniar.
The 26-year-old has started just two games this season across all competitions and has been absent from the matchday squad three times, including the last two Ligue 1 matches.
Muani was initially expected to lead the attack in Goncalo Ramos’ absence, but Enrique has opted for other players. With Ramos back to full fitness, Muani’s position has further declined.
After rising to prominence with Eintracht Frankfurt, Muani moved to PSG, but his time at the club has not gone as expected. Despite winning three titles with PSG, his role has been limited.
Manchester United has been linked with the French international and is reportedly in talks with PSG about a potential loan deal for the remainder of the season.
PSG’s willingness to let him go could ease a move to Manchester United next month.
However, Muani would be a risky acquisition for United.
While the Red Devils need to strengthen their attack, they require proven goal-scorers.
After signing Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, two untested talents, neither has consistently delivered.
Muani, who is not superior to Hojlund or Zirkzee, may not be the solution for United.
With two goals in Ligue 1 this season, Muani’s statistics suggest he should have scored at least two more, as he averages 1.17 expected goals per 90 minutes—the highest in PSG’s squad—but his finishing has been a weakness.
His crucial miss in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final against Argentina cost France a chance at back-to-back titles.
Manager Ruben Amorim needs a striker who can make an immediate impact, and based on Muani’s struggles at PSG, it seems unlikely he could fulfill that role.
