Ahead of Week 12, the Indianapolis Colts made things interesting for title-contending teams around the league that have been looking for a boost on the defensive side of the football.
The Colts announced that they had released veteran linebacker Shaquille Leonard, which caused quite a stir as he could be a game-changer for a team looking to compete for a Super Bowl or at least make the NFL playoffs this season.
Two teams quickly emerged as candidates to sign Leonard for the rest of the season once he fell through waivers unclaimed, with the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles being two teams potentially interested in his services.
Unfortunately for Leonard, neither the Cowboys nor Eagles signed him ahead of Week 12, which leaves his immediate future uncertain moving forward.
However, it appears the Cowboys could still be interested but are still gathering information on the four-time All-Pro linebacker, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.
With the Cowboys already having one of the best defenses in the league right now, adding Leonard would be a luxury and he would be a player who could help shoulder the load for superstar Micah Parsons.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Leonard sweepstakes pan out and if he indeed lands with the Cowboys or in Philadelphia with the Eagles, as both teams could use him.
Fortunately for Leonard, he’d be a great fit with either team, but it remains to be seen whether he ends up signing with Dallas or the Eagles or another team for the rest of the 2023 campaign
