“The passion of Rangers fans and Celtic fans, but I’ve always thought the same of the Edinburgh clubs.

Hibernian, Nick Montgomery one of my old players now is managing at Hibernian so I hope they do really well.”

Rangers fan Neil Warnock applied for Aberdeen

“I asked Laurent D’Jaffo, one of my ex-players who was at Aberdeen, ‘what’s it like up there Laurent?’

“And he said: ‘Gaffer, it’s the only place the seagulls never land, it’s the coldest place on Earth’.

“So I never got a reply to Aberdeen but you just don’t know what’s around the corner.

“I’m fascinated with challenges now so if there is another one after Christmas I’ll take it one board.
