Jack Butland hasn’t just been the best signing of Rangers summer, he’s already looking like one of the club’s best pound for pound signings ever.
When the 9-cap England international chose to come to Glasgow, there were doubts about what level he would be at given his recent inactivity.

In Jack Butland, Rangers have a keeper who looks set to join a long line of greats but do comments recently made by Gareth Southgate, via Sky Sports, suggest that a recall to the national team could be on the cards?
Jack Butland must hope Rangers form earns England recall
Speaking about Aaron Ramsdale’s lack of minutes this season for Arsenal, Southgate suggested that there could be a space opening up for another keeper in his England squad.
“He’s still battling to be the No1 at Arsenal, and his profile and the way he can use the ball with his feet, we like, we think that’s important.
“But there is a reality as a keeper. If we get to March and he’s six months without playing regularly, then I’m never going to promise things that I couldn’t guarantee delivering. He knows that, he’s perfectly realistic about that.”
The reality is, there is no reason why Jack Butland shouldn’t be considered given his form for Rangers, at least for a backup role.
If he was young and inexperienced it might be different but Southgate has already picked him in his England squads and knows what he is capable of.
The only problem is that Southgate is incredibly loyal and rarely throws a curve ball in terms of his squad selections.
The other issue, is that Newcastle United’s Nick Pope has been unlucky to miss out when he is playing regularly and playing well.
It all depends on what Southgate wants.
One thing is certain though, Jack Butland’s form for Rangers proves that he is back to his best and, at his best, he was England’s number one.
