Man killed and two elderly men hospitalised following tragic crash

Gardaí are urging anyone who saw the deadly collision on the N55 to come forward.
Following a collision on the N55 near The Pigeons, Co Westmeath, this morning that left a man in his 60s dead and two older men hospitalized, Gardaí are requesting witnesses.

Emergency services and gardaí rushed to the scene of the collision between two cars at around 11 a.m. this morning. The driver of one of the cars, a man in his 60s, was declared dead at the scene and his body has since been taken to Tullamore General Hospital’s mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted. Two other men, both in their 80s, were taken to Tullamore General Hospital to receive treatment for injuries that were initially thought to be non-life-threatening.

Road users who may have dashcam or other camera footage and were in the vicinity between 10.15 and 11.15 am are asked to provide it to the investigating Gardaí. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have finished a technical examination of the scene, but the road is still closed with local diversions in place. Gardaí are urging any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
