Just Now:Giants’ Joe Schoen may risk it all for….

The direction and success of the New York Giants next season will depend heavily on the decisions of quarterback Daniel Jones and general manager Joe Schoen. Schoen invested heavily in Jones this past offseason, signing him to a four-year, $160 million contract, showing both confidence and risk.

Daniel Jones is recovering from a torn ACL and concerns about his injury history threaten the Giants’ investment. The team is under contract after the 2024 season, which would provide significant salary cap space and could allow for a new quarterback. This decision is important as the Giants evaluate their long-term strategy. The 2025 draft class is thin on quarterback prospects, which has led the Giants to consider options in the current draft. Known for his tenacity with draft picks, Schoen was able to replicate that success with the Buffalo Bills, where he played a key role in acquiring Josh Allen.

Dan Duggan of The Athletic suggests Schoen will likely trade up in the draft if he finds a quarterback to turn the Giants around. A team’s approach to free agency, especially when it comes to signing a backup quarterback, can indicate their intentions.

A bold move by Schoen could even position Jones as a backup in 2024, signifying a significant shift in the team’s direction. However, securing a top quarterback prospect might be challenging, as the top teams in the draft order are expected to select the elite quarterbacks available, including Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels.

With their best players coming off the board, the Giants can focus on acquiring talent with potential targets like Malik Nabers, Romeo Odunze and Brock Bowers. Schoen’s availability will be a key factor in limiting the Giants’ options, especially if the No. 1 seed Chicago Bears decide to stick with Justin Fields. The Bears’ decision will have a significant impact on the Giants’ draft strategy. If Chicago decides to trade Fields and bring in a top quarterback, the Giants’ plans for a promotion could be shut down. In these scenarios, it is possible for the giants to wait for the future concept or develop the secondary disc selected in the next round. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix as a potential candidate.
