Benfica have secured Omar Bah on a new contract amidst interest from Brighton & Hove Albion, according to A Bola. The Portuguese club has retained a €60m release clause in his deal, aiming to deter potential suitors.
The report highlights that the defender attracted “concrete inquiries” last summer, with Brighton leading the chase and Galatasaray offering €13m. However, Benfica dismissed both approaches, insisting they wouldn’t entertain offers below €20m.
As a result, Bah stayed with the team this season and has become a key player under manager Bruno Lage, ranking as the squad’s 7th most-utilized player. Additionally, he has solidified his place on the Danish national team, earning 20 caps and providing one assist so far.
The growing interest in Bah prompted Benfica to renegotiate his contract, though the €60m release clause remained unchanged. While it’s unlikely any club would trigger that clause, Benfica are expected to demand more than the €20m valuation they held last summer, leaving Brighton to weigh their options.
