After being left out of the Italy team due to injury, Destiny Udogie is a player that Tottenham Hotspur is hoping will be available for their next game against Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old has reportedly been concentrating on recovering from a hamstring injury that prevented him from playing in the victory over Crystal Palace in late October, according to a report from The Athletic.
This season, Tottenham has seen a number of revelations, including Destiny Udogie. Few could have predicted that the young one would pick things up so quickly. He appears to be ideal for Ange Postecoglou’s system, though.
That next game proved to be that remarkable defeat to Chelsea, during which Udogie received a lot of criticism after being sent off for two yellow cards.
He was suspended for the loss to Wolves before the break. And Tottenham fans would have been concerned when he did not join up with the Italy squad.
But it seems that Spurs are optimistic that he will be available after the break, with The Athletic reporting that they are hopeful that he will feature against Aston Villa this weekend.
That news would not come as a big surprise because, despite the problem, Udogie seemed eager to leave with Italy this month.
The fact that the injury is not significant will please Tottenham. Unfortunately, Micky van de Ven and James Maddison both suffered injuries in that match against Chelsea, making it far more detrimental than just a loss.
It’s unlikely that Madison will play again this season. Van de Ven, meantime, will also be absent for a few weeks.
So, Tottenham, who will be eager to maintain their incredible start to the season, will benefit greatly from Udogie’s absence being limited.
