Former Texas Longhorns tight end Amari Niblack is returning to College Station. After playing just five snaps against the Texas A&M Aggies in late November, the two-time transfer has committed to Mike Elko’s program, multiple reports confirmed on Monday.
Niblack has one season of eligibility remaining following stints at Alabama and Texas. Over three seasons, he caught five passes for 33 yards.
He originally committed to Alabama in the summer of 2021 after receiving an offer during a camp. Niblack completed his recruitment with 15 additional offers from programs like Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and LSU. A consensus four-star prospect, he ranked as the No. 146 overall player and the No. 5 athlete nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
After enrolling at Alabama that summer, Niblack appeared in 10 games as a freshman in 2022, including one start, and recorded a single 15-yard reception. As a sophomore, his athleticism began to shine, earning him part-time starter status. He logged 20 receptions for 327 yards and four touchdowns, including an impressive 39-yard score against Texas where he broke three tackles.
However, after transferring to Texas through the NCAA portal, Niblack struggled to meet the high expectations set by his sophomore season.
Now, the former four-star recruit will vie for playing time at Texas A&M under offensive coordinator Collin Klein, competing with two other tight ends from the transfer portal.
