Alan Shearer has identified Elliot Anderson and Nikola Milenkovic as standout candidates for the best Premier League signings of the season.
Both players joined Nottingham Forest during the summer transfer window and have excelled under Nuno Espirito Santo at the City Ground.
Forest secured Anderson from Shearer’s former club, Newcastle United, in a £35m deal. The 22-year-old English midfielder has been a key contributor, registering five assists in 15 Premier League appearances this season.
Meanwhile, Serbian center-back Milenkovic was brought in from Fiorentina for a bargain fee of £12m. His defensive prowess has been crucial for Forest, who have kept five clean sheets in their 16 league games so far.
On a recent episode of The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer praised Forest’s recruitment: “You know who’s done well with transfers? I think Nottingham Forest. Elliot Anderson has done really well. Nikola Milenkovic [too].”
Currently, Forest are flying high in the Premier League, sitting an impressive fourth in the table as the festive period approaches. The team has also claimed notable victories, including a 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield in September, the Reds’ only league defeat this season.
Speaking after their recent 2-1 triumph over Aston Villa, manager Nuno Espirito Santo said, “We are working very hard, with clear plans for improvement and building the team. We are competing with all the clubs.”
In addition, pundit Micah Richards suggested Emile Smith Rowe as another contender for the best signing of the season. Smith Rowe joined Fulham from Arsenal for £34m and has impressed at Craven Cottage, contributing five goal involvements in 16 league appearances under Marco Silva.
