It always appears that the world is conspiring against you when you are in a difficult situation. That’s precisely how many Sheffield United players must be feeling right now, with three of the squad suffering long-term injuries as a result of a poor run of results.
The Blades are bottom of the Premier League table, with only one point from their first eight Premier League games, and are coming off a 3-1 defeat to Fulham. It’s a difficult time right now, made more difficult by the uncertainty surrounding Chris Basham.
The Blades stalwart suffered a horrific leg injury at Craven Cottage, and while the prognosis is unknown, it’s certain the 35-year-old will be out for a long time. To add to the uncertainty surrounding Basham, manager Paul Heckingbottom has stated that both John Egan and Tom Davies will miss “months” of action. What was already a source of concern about the club’s injuries has become substantially worse.
