In the midst of the turmoil surrounding the club’s support, Peter Martin made the decision to “disregard” Tam McManus’ joke about Rangers since it referred to a “offence.”
On November 3, the BBC pundit was responding to the consequences from the pyrotechnics incident during the 5-0 Gers victory against Dundee on November 1, which resulted in flares in the away end delaying the game and involving the police.
McManus joined the chorus of pundits who have denounced the danger of the situation but caused laughter as he claimed Philippe Clement’s side had at least shown “flare” on the pitch at last.
It was encouraging to see Rangers display some flair on the field in addition to their need to police and remove it from the game.
Martin remarked, “I’m going to disregard that joke on the one basis that, quite simply, it is actually an offence to take them [flares] in,” as Lee McCulloch and Alan Rough started laughing.
