Just In: Nottingham Forest now in talks with 49-year-old manager to replace Steve Cooper – Romano…

Nottingham Forest have made contact with Nuno Espirito Santo to become the club’s new head coach.

The Reds are considering whether or not to sack Steve Cooper in the coming days.Forest have slipped to 17th in the Premier League thanks to four defeats in their last five games. The Reds are now just five points above the Premier League relegation zone. Espirito Santo is currently unemployed. He previously managed Wolves, Tottenham and Al-Ittihad, with Evangelos Marinakis now considering all his options. This news comes from Fabrizio Romano, who made these claims this evening. The manager is said to be in talks with Forest as they begin to consider their options. Espirito Santo helped Wolves gain promotion to the Premier League and keep them in the division after winning the Second Division title. The Portuguese coach then got the job at Tottenham in 2021. However, this proved to be a disaster and he left having achieved eight wins and seven draws in his 17 games as manager. Last week it was claimed there was nothing imminent from Forest’s point of view regarding Cooper. It now seems that in Marinkis’ eyes, enough is enough and that changes could come.It must be said that Espirito Santo would be a strange choice. Going from Oliver Glasner or Julen Lopetegui to a manager who led a team in Saudi Arabia is a real devaluation. Espirito Santo is the name currently mentioned, although there is a key phrase in the Romano claim. He says talks are ongoing should Forest decide to make a change, perhaps suggesting Cooper will be given a little more time.
