Lewis Miley is expected to be part of Newcastle United’s matchday squad after the 18-year-old midfielder played only 45 minutes for the Under-21s during their 3-2 victory over Chelsea at Whitley Park on Monday night. Meanwhile, Sven Botman, who also featured in that game for 60 minutes, will not be ready for Wednesday’s cup tie at St James’ Park (7:45 pm kick-off) as he continues his recovery from a nine-month absence due to an ACL injury.
Ahead of the game, 20-year-old forward Garang Kuol joined the first team in training. The Australian international has yet to make a competitive appearance for Newcastle’s senior team and has only managed two Under-21s appearances this season after recovering from an injury.
Newcastle had initially planned to loan Kuol out during the summer transfer window and are expected to revisit those plans in January. Last season, he spent time on loan at Volendam in the Netherlands, following a previous loan spell with Heart of Midlothian in Scotland.
