The New York Yankees announced on Friday they will be playing a two-game series in Mexico City against the Diablos Rojos del México of the Mexican League at the end of spring training. The games will be played at Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium on Sunday March 24 and Monday, March 25, just a few days before the Yankees open the regular season.
Major League Baseball has increased its presence in Mexico, as there have been three series played in Mexico since 2018 with another coming this season. Last year, the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres played a two-game series at Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium, and in April of this year, the Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies will also be playing in the same Mexico City stadium.
Once this series is completed, it will be the fifth different country in which the Yankees played a series. Besides the U.S. and Canada, New York has also played baseball in Tokyo, Japan and London, England, but those cities all saw regular season games where New York played another MLB team.
The Yankees currently have their final two spring training scheduled games set for the same days as this series, one against the Pittsburgh Pirates and another vs. the New York Mets. New York opens the season on the road against the Astros on March 28.
