A Smart Move: Yankees Spoke To Superstar Monday About Possible Deal According To Insider….

The New York Yankees still have a chance to add to the starting rotation although a move is unlikely. New York has been linked to two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell on multiple occasions. The Yankees will continue to be mentioned as a fit for the star hurler until he ultimately lands elsewhere. Snell likely is out of New York’s budget at this point due to the tax implications a contract would bring, but the two sides did reportedly speak Monday, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.

“The Yankees continue to keep the lines of communication open, which illustrates the resolve club owner Hal Steinbrenner has to win,” Heyman said. “Unfortunately, the call Monday appeared to put the sides no closer. (One Yankees person characterized the chances for a deal as extremely low). “However, as long as they’re talking, we have to assume there’s a chance. “The Yankees like Snell and can afford Snell (although they obviously don’t love the tax implication). What’s more, it’s unclear how many teams remain in the market for a $30M player. The Yankees also like former Yankee Jordan Montgomery, the other top starter left on the free-agent market, but word is they prefer Snell. It’s clear though: This is a discussion in need of a breakthrough.” New York is in a significantly better place than it was at the end of the 2023 season but that doesn’t mean another move couldn’t help. Landing Snell immediately would give the Yankees one of the top rotations in the American League. While a move still is unlikely, keep an eye out on Snell.
