Breaking news: Yankees ‘Willing’ To Offer Superstar Massive Contract; Could Surprising Move Be Coming?

It sounds like the Yankees could offer a massive deal still.

The New York Yankees are in an interesting spot.

New York has significantly improved the club this offseason, but may not be the favorite in the American League East. The Baltimore Orioles won 101 games last season and now are in an even better spot.

Baltimore completed a blockbuster trade Thursday and brought in former Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes. The 29-year-old already has one Cy Young Award under his belt along with three All-Star appearances and now is one of the top hurlers in the American League.

New York is in a better spot but may need to respond. The Yankees have been linked to a handful of hurlers with two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell being the most prominent.

While a move should be considered unlikely, it shouldn’t be fully ruled out. New York offered a contract to Snell and reportedly even were willing to offer more, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.

“The Yankees’ exact offer to Blake Snell isn’t known, but word is they were willing to go ‘above Carlos Rodón,’ which presumably means more than the $27 million per year Carlos Rodón got on his six-year Yankees deal,” Heyman said. “Yankees people suggest they aren’t looking at the starter market.

“Though the $162M Rodon deal was a measuring stick for the Yankees, it’s also believed Rodón’s rough first season in The Bronx made them less willing to go huge for Snell.”

It’s been reported that the Yankees have pulled their offer to Snell but he remains available. New York clearly has money to spend and if Snell’s demands start to go down, why not take a chance on him?

New York seems to be going all in on the 2024 campaign because of the fact that Juan Soto could leave in free agency. Why not take a major swing and bring in one of the best pitchers in baseball?
