Even though one of Jalen Brunson’s 3-pointers seemed to have a fortunate bounce off the rim, his outstanding shooting performance set the tone for the New York Knicks’ 139-122 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Friday in NBA play.
Brunson achieved a career-best 50 points, flawlessly making all nine of his 3-point attempts, contributing to the Knicks’ victory. The guard’s accuracy was remarkable, hitting 17 of 23 shots overall, including a perfect 12 of 12 in the second half. This feat made him the first player in Knicks’ history to score 50 points with nine made 3-pointers.
“I had no idea,” Brunson said. “I was just playing free.”
The Suns, who lost Bradley Beal to an ankle injury in the first quarter, have been struggling recently, losing six of their last eight games. On the other hand, the Knicks have been gaining momentum, winning two of their last three matches.
Kevin Durant of the Suns acknowledged the Knicks’ proficiency, particularly their pick-and-roll plays. Despite leading by 10 points in the third quarter, the Suns only had a narrow 99-97 advantage going into the final quarter, largely due to Brunson’s 19 points in the third, which included five 3.
Durant claimed, “They made shots and just got hot and aggressive.” “That was the game, and they killed us in the pick and roll.”
