It would be an understatement to say Giannis Antetokounmpo was proud of his team after their NBA Cup victory on Tuesday night. The Bucks pulled away from the Thunder with a powerful 19-5 run in the second half.
Though Milwaukee led 51-50 at halftime, they extended their lead to 19 points early in the fourth quarter, turning up the intensity after the break. From there, Giannis and his teammates never looked back.
In the end, the Bucks claimed the NBA Cup with a 97-81 win over OKC. After being named NBA Cup MVP for the first time in his career, Giannis gave an enthusiastic speech in the locker room, congratulating his teammates.
The two-time MVP was in high spirits as he entered the room. “Hey! Hey! Hey,” Giannis shouted. “I’m so proud of everybody. Great job, good job. Everybody got 500,000, right? Let me hold some!” He made sure to remind his teammates about the $500,000 cash prize each player earned for winning the NBA Cup.
While no one had forgotten the bonus, it was the perfect moment for Giannis to highlight how their efforts had been rewarded. At the end of the celebration, Damian Lillard was seen singing, “It feels good,” as he celebrated the victory. Lillard, who joined the Bucks in 2023 with championship aspirations, was finally able to realize that goal, albeit with an NBA Cup title.
Together, Giannis and Lillard scored 49 points on 16-of-31 shooting, and the Thunder had no answer for the Bucks’ star duo, sealing the outcome of the championship game.
