Dwight Yorke, a Manchester United legend, has intimated that Erik ten Hag could make a surprise approach for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, albeit the transfer would be difficult to complete due to Andre Onana’s recent arrival at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag made a huge decision over the summer when he told Manchester United not to renew David de Gea’s contract, freeing up room in the squad for a new keeper. Man United spent £47 million to sign Onana from Inter.
Scouts at Manchester United were intrigued with the 27-year-old’s talent with the ball at his feet, suggesting he would thrive in Ten Hag’s system. While Onana has demonstrated his long-range passing ability while wearing a Manchester United shirt, he has also been guilty.
These gaffes have prompted calls for Manchester United to bring in a successor immediately.
Former Manchester United striker Yorke responded to the suggestion that Ten Hag would make Ramsdale his new No. 1 in an interview with Stocklytics (via football.london) after the Englishman dropped behind David Raya in the Arsenal pecking order.
However, Yorke admits that the transfer is doubtful due to Onana’s contract term.
David Ornstein assesses Ten Hag’s prospects of being fired by Manchester United in the wake of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s departure.
“We can speculate about Ramsdale, but Onana has a five-year contract!” What is he going to do? “Who will take him after those mistakes?” Yorke stated.
